Spotlight Dance Companies



Company Audition Dates for the 2020 - 2021 Season:
  • Due to COVID-19, auditions for our company level classes will be handled differently this season. We will update asap!
Typically, three combinations (Ballet/Lyrical, Jazz & Tap) are taught on the first day and then dancers are given a time to return on the 2nd day to audition the combinations they learned in front of our judges panel. Dancers selected for these elite groups will dance twice a week. If chosen, you can look forward to competitions, dance conventions & guest instructors.

Spotlight Classes Offered

Creative Movement: Offered for ages 3 & 4; this class focuses on building the main concepts and techniques of Ballet and Tap that are needed to advance into other styles of dance, as well as incorporating fun creative movement activities.

Ballet: This class focuses on building the dancers technique, body placement, arm positions, terminology and strength.

Tap: Tap class incorporates beginner through advanced tap terminology and knowledge into rhythmic patterns.

Jazz: Offered for anyone 7-years-old and above, this style of dance incorporates Ballet terminology and technique into fast-paced, up-beat combinations.

Hip Hop: This class presents the latest dance styles of the Hip Hop culture. Dancers who take hip hop MUST take at least one technical class as well (i.e. tap, jazz, ballet, adagio or any combination of these.) &must be 7-years-old or above.

Hip Hop Kids/Jazz Technique: This class is offered for dancers 5 - 7 years old and is taken in addition to their Ballet/Tap combo class. It is a 45 minute Hip Hop class as well as a 30 minute Jazz Technique class!

Lyrical: This class takes ballet technique and presents them in a more expressive form.

Adagio: This style of dance incorporates male and female partnering and lifting. There will be an audition for this class on Sunday, October 2nd from 3:30 - 5 p.m.

Pointe: Dancing on Pointe is not recommended for dancers under 12-years-old. Students will be placed in a Pointe shoe once they have shown thorough knowledge of ballet technique, posture and strength, and have been approved by their Ballet instructor.

Other additional/seasonal classes include: Acro, Stretch & Strength, Turns & Leaps, Dance Fusion & Contemporary.

Spotlight Lesson Fees

2020 - 2021 SPOTLIGHT TUITION

Our dance year runs from September -May (9 months), & is split up into 2 semesters (September - December & January - May).  Monthly tuition is based on which classes each student/family register for and are split into 9 equal monthly payment due the 1st week of each month. 
*Your balance MUST be paid by end of the 1st Semester to return to dance in January. The 2nd Semester must be paid in full by the balance payoff date prior to our 1st ticket sales. You will be contacted directly if your account is not paid on time.

Typically, your 1st month’s tuition (or company tuition deposit) plus a $30 registration fee is due at registration! Dancers auditioning for a company pay the September company tuition deposit of $150 plus a $20 audition fee! These fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. This season will look a bit different due to COVID-19, so please email us with any questions.

Returned Check (NSF) & late fees will be applied if necessary.
  • If your account becomes 30 days late, you will be required to supply Spotlight with a Credit/Debit card number for future payments. 
  • Add on classes (i.e. Additional Jazz, Hip Hip, Pointe, Funkdafied, Acro, private lessons, master classes, competition small groups/solos/duets/trios etc.) all have additional fees not included in our chore class pricing. You will be given these fees if you register for, or are chosen for these classes. We will only be registering for chore classes to begin our 2020 - 2021 season due to a modified safety schedule. 
  • PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS are available for an additional cost. Contact us for additional information and availability.



Spotlight Studio Policies

DRESS CODE & SHOES:
Dancers are to wear shoes selected by Spotlight School of Dance. Shoes for dancers 8-yrs-old and up can be conveniently purchased through the studio. Check with your dance teacher for the shoes you need based on your level of dance.

DANCE APPAREL MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES:
3 – 7 year old dancers: Wear any color leotard with pink tights, pink ballet shoes and black tap shoes. 

8 & Up dancers: Black leotard, pink/tan/black tights, Ballet skirt may be added for Ballet Class & dance shorts/capris for other classes. Ask Spotlight what shoes your dancer needs depening on their class placement. 

Male dancers: Plain T-shirts, black dance pants, black Tap, & Jazz shoes. Jazz shoes can be worn for Ballet class for male dancers only. 

SPOTLIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS:
Limited Spotlight scholarships are also available through the studio as well. Contact us for more information.

VACATIONS & SNOW DAYS: 
You will be given a detailed Spotlight caledar at your first class with important dates and holiday breaks. In cases of extreme weather, we will make a decision to close the studio based on the road conditions during our class times. Classes will alwasy be held if schools close due to extreme cold. We will always update the studio's voicemail, website and facebook page in case of a snow day or emergency class cancellation. Make sure to check any of these options for updated studio information.

ABSENCES:
If a student must miss a class, they can take a make up class with an age equivalent class. Remember, lesson fees are not refundable or transferable, so please try to make it to class and/or a make up class.

*If a student feels that more personal help is needed, contact your instructor about a private lesson at an added cost.

SPRING CONCERT:
Spotlight School of Dance will present a Spring Concert to showcase what our dancers have learned over the dance season. Costumes will be selected, and costume fees will be collected with your November payment. A non-refundable recital fee will be collected with your January payment. All payments through May must be received to get your tickets!

HAIR MUST BE PULLED BACK AT ALL TIMES!

SPOTLIGHT TEACHERS, CHOREOGRAPHERS & ASSISTANTS 


Owners/Directors Dede DeCamp & Lindsay DeCamp Fullwood





Dede DeCamp: For the past 50 years, Dede has taught dance in the Flint area. Dede started dancing at the age of 6, and has studied dance in Chicago, New York, Detroit and Grand Rapids. Dede has studied with Tap masters such as Fayard Nicholas, Robert Reed and Dianne Walker to name a few.  She also founded and coached the Kearsley Varsity Pom Pon Squad from 1992-1998. In 1985, Dede opened Dancin’ With Dede, and was owner and director for 10 years. After that, she went on to be an instructor and Tap Director in the Davison area for 9 years. Dede specializes in teaching Tap and has choreographed and danced in numerous competitions receiving superior and national awards with her dance companies. This season her Tap routine “Respect,” won 1st overall advanced teen lines at Dance Force Xpress. Her motto is, take life by the hand and dance.


Lindsay DeCamp Fullwood: Lindsay is a graduate of Western Michigan University where she was a 3-year member of the WMU Dance Team. As the team’s head choreographer, she was presented with their “Lifetime Achievement Award” for Outstanding Choreography. Lindsay has studied dance through studios since the age of 3 and has been choreographing and teaching for 23 years. Lindsay has taught dance for Universal Dance Association, the University of Michigan Flint’s Dance Department and the Flint Music Academy. Lindsay’s routines have placed in many overalls and received Platinum ratings at regional and national competitions as well as consistently winning many special judges awards for things like “Creative Concept” and “Entertainment.” This past season many of her soloist’s won title awards and her groups continue to take top scores in Hip Hop, Jazz & Lyrical. She was also honored to be nominated by the Grand Blanc Chamber for the Children’s Hero Award. Lindsay and her husband are blessed to have 2 beautiful ballerinas of their own, Avery & Addisyn. Lindsay loves sharing her love of dance with them and each and everyone one of her students and staff. She is so proud of all the hard work they have put in to make this show a success.





SPOTLIGHT TEACHERS & CHOREOGRAPHERS



Hailey Bond: Hailey began her dancing at 10 years old here at DeCamp’s Spotlight! In her sophomore year of High School, she became an assistant teacher for our 3 & 4’s classes. From there, she assisted in a variety of classes including intermediate jazz, hip hop and Blue Company. Hailey was also named Spotlight’s 2018 Dancer of the Year! After graduating High School, Hailey continued dancing by joining the Michigan State University Elite competitive dance team and she also became a choreographer for a few of our competition routines this season.

Alana Carpenter: Alana has studied dance in the Flint area since the age of 5 and has danced in several companies throughout her career. She has competed and danced with Spotlight since the first year in 2003 as a member of the Red Company, and was honored to be the 2nd Spotlight Dancer of the Year. Alana was an assistant coach and choreographer for the Bentley High School’s dance team in 2008 and with the Grand Blanc High School’s Varsity Pom team as an assistant coach and competition choreographer from 2009-2011. Alana has been a proud member of Spotlights Teaching Staff for 13 years and has received many awards, both regionally and nationally. Alana has continued her dance education by taking many classes outside the studio from top choreographers whenever she can. Alana teaches Intermediate Hip-hop, 10 and Up, Intermediate and Advance Jazz, Teen and Senior Adagio, Blue Company & White Company along with doing choreography for Red Company as well. Alana is very honored to be a part of Spotlight’s teaching staff and part of the Spotlight Family.

MacKenzie Clark: MacKenzie started dancing at the age of three and joined the Spotlight family nine years ago. She started assisting in 8th grade for intermediate hip hop and continued to assist teens and blue company all the way through high school. In her senior year, she was named the 2017 Spotlight Dancer of the Year. She continued her dancing career in college and is currently a third year member of the Central Michigan University Dance team. This past season, she choreographed for her team as well as choreographing numerous competitive solos for the studio. MacKenzie has also taught classes for intermediate and advanced jazz, red, white, and blue company classes, and intermediate and advanced hip hop.

Courtney Dolan: Courtney began ballet lessons at the age of 8 at the Rochester School of Dance under the tutelage of Cornelia Sampson. She fell in love with ballet and continued training throughout all of her schooling, while also attending summer dance intensives on scholarship at BalletMet Dance Academy and Boston Ballet. Courtney graduated from Indiana University with dual degrees in Ballet Performance and Elementary Education and joined the Festival Ballet Providence where she danced professionally for 4 years. She had the chance to perform as a guest artist in performances throughout New England and as far as California and also had the opportunity to be coached by legendary ballerinas such as Violette Verdy, Julie Kent and Amanda McKerrow. After retiring from ballet, she began working in healthcare and currently works in medical education at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Courtney and her husband live in Grand Blanc with their 6-year-old twins and she loves sharing her passion for ballet with the company dancers.

Quinnay Hester: Quinnay has been dancing since the age of 6 and began dancing at Spotlight in 2007. She was a member of all three competitive companies along with Funkdafied and Tapestry. She currently teaches 5,6,7's and choreographed a tap trio for competition, and she also teaches dance at various schools in Genesee county through the 21st century program partnership through Spotlight. She is currently attending Mott Community College and will be graduating with her Associate of Arts Degree this spring. This upcoming fall she will be pursuing her bachelor's degree in social work at Grand Valley State University.

Jessica Hush: Jessica has been dancing since the age of 4 and danced at Spotlight for 12 years. She began competing at the age of 8, receiving high awards at both the regional and national levels. She has also trained under the direction of Bruce Bradley and is a former member of the Tapology Youth Ensemble. Jessica has taken classes from instructors such as Dianne Walker, Gregg Russell, and Jason Janas just to name a few. She was honored to receive Spotlight's Dancer of the Year in 2013. Jessica is currently a member of the Oakland University Dance Team and choreographed several routines for Spotlight this competition season. She is thankful for all the opportunities Spotlight has given her and she can't wait to see the dancers shine on stage!

Sarah Kennedy: Sarah has studied dance since the age of 4 and danced competitively for 10 years for Spotlight. While at Spotlight, Sarah has attended many conventions from top choreographers such as Diane Walker and Mollee Gray. As a senior, Sarah was honored to be the 2015 Spotlight Dancer of the Year. She has been on the Spotlight staff for the past 5 years as an assistant teacher, teacher and choreographer. Sarah was a member and captain of the Grand Blanc High School Varsity Pom Squad where she attended UDA Dance Camps, and competitions at the local, regional and National levels. Sarah is currently attending Central Michigan University majoring in Special Education. Currently Sarah is a member of the CMU Dance Team and participated in a National collegiate competition. Sarah loves being back during the spring and summer so she can continue to teach, choreograph and spend more time with her Spotlight family.

Emileigh Lewis: Emileigh has been dancing since the age of 4, and at age 11 started dancing on a competitive dance team. Emileigh began dancing at Spotlight in 2010, competing with Red Company and Funkdafied. Emileigh has competed in regional and national competitions and Spotlight gave her many opportunities to learn from some of the top choreographers at conventions. Emileigh currently teaches Creative Movement for our 3 & 4 year old dancers, and she is so happy to be party of the amazing teaching staff here at Spotlight!

Kacy Perry: Kacy began dancing at the age of 3 and has yet to stop! At 8 she began competing across Michigan, as well as taking lessons from Dede DeCamp. Kacy also performed with Clio Cast and Crew during her summer breaks. At 15, Kacy began teaching dance for a local Kiwanis summer program. While attending Michigan State University, she also taught at a local dance studio as well as a high school dance team. Kacy currently teaches Ballet, Tap, Jazz Technique and Hip Hip for our 5,6 & 7’s, and she also choreographed a tap small group this season for our company dancers. She is very proud of all the dancers here at Spotlight!

Sarah Walker: Sarah started her dance journey at the age of two and began dancing at Spotlight at the age of nine. She was a member in each of the companies, Adagio, Funkdafied and Pointe. She also assisted Blue company Ballet her senior year, and now she teaches our 5,6,7’s on Tuesdays. .Sarah also choreographed a jazz trio for the 2019 competition season. She is also now a full time student at U of M Flint and is going for physical therapy. This has been a great first year teaching, and she is excited to get more involved in the years to come!

Spotlight Dancer of the Year

Madison Mitchell: Madison has been dancing for the past 16 years, and has been a part of Spotlight’s Red Company since the studio opened its doors in 2003. She has been involved in many groups including Adagio and Funkdafied. Madison has competed at Hall of Fame Nationals in Chicago and has attended Tremaine Dance conventions with Spotlight. This year, Madison is also an assistant teacher. Madison is a current student at the University of Michigan – Flint and will be attending Central Michigan University in the fall to study elementary education. She would like to thank her family and friends for always believing in her and also Miss Lindsay and Miss Dede for giving her the honor of 2008-2009 Dancer of The Year!
  • SPOTLIGHT DANCER OF THE MONTH: This award will be presented each month by the teaching staff. The winners will be selected on positive attitude, improvement, ability etc.
  • SPOTLIGHT DANCER OF THE YEAR: This award will be presented to the dancer who the teaching staff feels best represents Spotlight School of Dance; age is NOT a factor. This dancer will be given the opportunity to have a solo spotlight dance in the Spring Concert.
